Band

While playing bass in several Minneapolis bands spanning over two decades, Jason Streitz quietly wrote country, bluegrass and folk songs in his spare time. These songs, along with a handful of new tunes would become the foundation for The Long Odds.

In October of 2016 the band recorded their first full length album with engineer Nick Tveitbakk at the renowned Pachyderm Studios in Cannon Falls, MN. Level Ground was released in the winter of 2018 with special guest, fiddle player Allie Kral (Yonder Mountain String Band).

In August of 2019 Jason moved with his family from Minneapolis to the north woods of Wisconsin where they now own and operate a small pottery business out of an old 1921 schoolhouse. Performing now as J Streitz and the Long Odds, the band has completed their second full length album. Light Again was recorded at Zoo School Studio in St Croix Falls, WI and is set for release in August of ‘24.

J Streitz and the Long Odds have shared the stage with a wide range of national and regional acts including Sarah Shook and the Disarmers, Nathan Kalish, Invisible Boy, Kind Country, Gabe Barnett and Them Rounders, Bruise Violet, Jay Lenz (Pert Near Sandstone) at prominent midwest venues such as The Parkway Theater, Turf Club, Icehouse, Lee’s Liquor Lounge, The Cabooze, Como Dockside Pavilion, The Aster Café and Brickyard Pottery. Jason has been a guest on the Mad Ripple Hootenanny, hosted by Jim Walsh. He has opened as a solo act for several bands including David Huckfelt, Annie Humphrey, Turn Turn Turn and The Mascot Theory and has appeared as a guest on the podcast “Glad You’re Here” with Grant Glad as well as the Wisconsin Public Radio program “Simply Superior” hosted by Robin Washington.

Streitz has a way of crafting melodies that have a slight haunting, wistful air that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
— Carol Roth - Adventures In Americana
I thoroughly enjoyed getting lost in their world...the vocals blending together flawlessly was enough to give me goosebumps.
— Girl At The Rock Shows
“Light Again”, the second track solidifies that Jason Streitz is a poet...Here’s the kicker, I don’t actually know what the song is about but because he is such a fantastic songwriter I stopped what I was doing and listened to his album while looking at the trees outside my window. Taking the moment in, watching the clock tick on.
— Dani Erin, Melodic Noise Media
“Traces of early Uncle Tupelo and Jayhawks trickle into this fiddle-spiked Twin Cities alt-twang quintet’s promising debut album “Level Ground”, recorded at Pachyderm Studio with a guest spot by Yonder Mountain’s Allie Kral”
— Chris Riemenschneider - STAR TRIBUNE
“Comprised of several veterans of the scene, it’s easy to close your eyes and hear stalwarts like the Jayhawks, Golden Smog, and Farm Accident.”
— Lost In The Noise
“The Long Odds play to a full house at Mortimer’s...It was a full room, cozy feel and an Americana-loving crowd...I’m a sucker for a song that tells a good story.”
— Mostly Minnesota
“The blend of country, folk, and bluegrass was a perfect finish to the evening at Icehouse. Another solid group of musicians and Jason’s ability for storytelling in his songs was fun to watch. Check them out!”
— Tom Smouse, Smouse in the House
